Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are venturing into scripted television with a new polo-themed drama series for Netflix. This project, stemming from their Archewell Productions, is set to explore the competitive world of equestrian sports through an upstairs-downstairs narrative.
The untitled drama is being developed with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Fake Empire and is written by Francisca X. Hu. It will focus on the complex relationships surrounding two rival polo teams and their leading families in Wellington, Florida.
This scripted series follows the Sussexes' involvement in the 2024 Netflix docuseries "Polo," which highlighted the U.S. Open Polo Championship and associated family dynasties. The new show aims to broaden the focus beyond the traditional elite circles of the "sport of kings."
The polo drama is one of several projects in development under the Sussexes' overall deal with Netflix. Other planned productions include film adaptations of "The Wedding Date" and "Meet Me At The Lake."
This development occurs amidst ongoing scrutiny of the couple's Netflix ventures, including adjustments to their previous projects. However, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria affirmed the continued relationship, stating that movies and TV projects are still in development with them.
