On November 9, 2025, the influential Harlem rapper Max B was finally released from prison after serving 16 years behind bars. In 2009, he had received a 75-year sentence for his involvement in an armed robbery that resulted in a man's death. However, his sentence was later reduced to 20 years due to a conflict of interest in the original case and a subsequent plea deal on an aggravated manslaughter charge.
During his incarceration, Max B continued to make music, including the 2011 album Vigilante Season, the Coke Wave 4 mixtape with French Montana, and an interlude on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo. Now that he is free, Max B will remain on parole for the next five years. In a recent interview, he expressed his excitement about the opportunity to return to the music industry, saying, "I can still make it sound good. Still got that buttery, milky voice for the ladies. That's my inspiration right there -- knowing I'm about to come back out here and get a chance to do it all over again."
