Norwegian post-hardcore band Hammok is releasing their much-anticipated sophomore album, "When Does This Place Become Our Scene," on June 5. The announcement coincides with their signing to Sargent House, a notable step for the Oslo-based trio. The lead single, titled "The Scene," offers a glimpse into the album's lyrical themes and is accompanied by a visually striking music video.
The genesis of "The Scene" stemmed from the band's touring experiences, prompting reflections on community and belonging. Singer-guitarist Tobias Osland expressed a desire to capture the essence of encountering individuals deeply invested in their local environments and music scenes. This introspection forms a core element of the new record.
Having honed their sound over nearly six years, Hammok, comprising Osland, drummer Ferdinand Aasheim, and bassist Ole Benjamin Thomassen, crafts a compelling blend of punk, noise rock, and post-hardcore. Their previous releases include the "Jumping/Dancing/Fighting" EP in 2022 and the 2024 album "Look How Long Lasting Everything Is Moving Forward for Once."
"When Does This Place Become Our Scene" was produced by Osland, with lyrical content exploring the social dynamics and historical context of hardcore music. It also critically examines the experience of maturation within the pervasive landscape of social media, posing profound questions about solitude and connection.
