Summary
- Hamilton's cast recording hit 500 weeks at No. 1.
- It's the only album to achieve this on any Billboard chart.
- Hamilton leads all Cast Albums with 500 weeks at No. 1.
The original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton: An American Musical has cemented its place in history, reaching an astounding 500th week atop Billboard's Cast Albums chart. This remarkable feat makes it the only title ever to achieve such longevity at No. 1 on any published Billboard ranking. The recording debuted at the top of the chart on October 17, 2015, and has since spent 87% of its 576 weeks in that leading position.
Since the Cast Albums chart's inception in January 2006, only four albums have managed even 10 weeks at No. 1. Hamilton stands unparalleled with 500 weeks, significantly outranking Wicked (355 weeks), Jersey Boys (75 weeks), and The Book of Mormon (15 weeks). During Hamilton's reign, the original cast recording of Wicked, released in 2003, has accumulated the most weeks at No. 1 among other titles since Hamilton's debut, with 22 weeks.
The show's creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, led the original Broadway cast. Beyond the original recording, Hamilton has spawned further chart success with "10 Shots" and "Rise Up! The Anthology." The 2016 mixtape, featuring various artists covering Hamilton songs, topped the all-genre Billboard 200. The original recording itself peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 following its Disney+ premiere, marking it as the highest-charting cast recording since 1969.
