The BBC has released a brutal first trailer for its new drama series, "Half Man," created by and starring Richard Gadd alongside Jamie Bell. The program follows the tumultuous relationship between two brothers, Ruben and Niall, portrayed by Gadd and Bell respectively. Their story begins when Ruben moves in with Niall's family as a teenager.
The narrative spans four decades, from the 1980s to the present day, capturing the "good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments." A synopsis reveals that despite their close bond, Ruben becomes increasingly erratic, leading to an explosion of violence that propels the story through their shared past.
"Half Man" explores complex themes of brotherhood, violence, and the intense fragility often found in male relationships. The series comprises six episodes, with weekly releases beginning April 24 on BBC iPlayer, followed by transmissions on BBC One and BBC Scotland. Richard Gadd has noted that while not autobiographical, the series touches on themes he relates to, such as confusion, trauma, and abuse.
