The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) has once again served as a crucial platform for the genesis of new film projects, reinforcing its mission over 24 editions. Despite industry fluctuations, HAF fosters diverse genres, with animation and genre films showing robust health. Jacob Wong, the program's overseer, expressed excitement about the current slate.
The HKIFF Collection initiative extends HAF's reach by placing selected projects in an international marketplace. Monar Films' founder, Yiran Song, noted the catalogue's diversity, offering both festival appeal and commercial viability. Last year's highlights included award-winning films like Zhang Lu's 'Gloaming in Luomu' and 'Mothertongue.'
This year's HAF selections feature five promising projects. These include Emma Kawawada's 'Life is Yours' from Japan, Sasha Chuk's Hong Kong drama '131,' and Norris Wong Yee-lam and Wong Hoi's Hong Kong film 'Good Trip.' The lineup also features the animated Philippine production 'Zsazsa Zaturnnah' and the Mongolian-South Korean thriller 'Searchers: Blood in the Grass.'
