Paul W. Downs, a co-creator of the acclaimed series Hacks, has revealed a strong desire to explore a potential spinoff centered around his character, Jimmy LaSaque Jr., and Kayla Schaefer, played by Meg Stalter. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Downs discussed how many funny storylines for Jimmy and Kayla did not make it into the show because they didn't fit.
When questioned about spinoff interest, Stalter confirmed their desire but indicated it was unlikely. Downs elaborated, stating their wish to do it but also their belief that the original show had a well-executed conclusion. He compared landing the plane of the series to a difficult but ultimately successful endeavor they wish to preserve.
Following the Hacks series finale in May, Stalter had previously expressed to Deadline her willingness to participate in a spinoff focused on Jimmy and Kayla, acknowledging the fan demand. She even humorously suggested she would prioritize such a project over her music.
Stalter also playfully suggested that fans should be more 'aggressive' if they truly want to see a petition-driven spinoff materialize, adding a touch of humor to the ongoing discussion about the beloved characters' future.
