South Korean actress Ha Young has exited Netflix's popular medical drama, 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,' and will not appear in its planned second and third seasons. Her departure follows recent controversy regarding her great-grandfather's alleged ties to pro-Japanese activities during Japan's colonial rule of Korea.
The controversy began when Ha Young discussed her family's medical history on a variety show. Online research identified her great-grandfather as doctor Ahn Sang Ho, who historical records link to a pro-Japanese organization. While her agency initially disputed the claims, they later acknowledged the records and apologized.
Ha Young subsequently issued a personal apology, expressing remorse for her lack of awareness regarding her ancestor's full history. She stated she had only known limited details and had spoken with pride without full knowledge. She committed to researching the matter further.
'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,' released in January 2025, achieved significant global success. Production for the second season was reportedly set to begin in October 2025, with both new seasons intended as continuations of the original narrative. Netflix has not yet disclosed casting changes or plot adjustments.
Separately, Ha Young is also involved in SBS's upcoming drama, 'The Long Shot Trial,' which is reportedly nearing completion.
