Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein Adaptation Surprises with Familial Focus

As the spooky season approaches, audiences are eagerly anticipating the release of Guillermo del Toro's take on the classic Frankenstein story. However, according to one of the film's stars, Mia Goth, this adaptation will not be a typical horror movie.

Goth, who plays the role of Elizabeth Lavenza, shared insights about del Toro's vision for the project during the Los Angeles red carpet premiere. She revealed that neither she nor the director sees the film as a scary movie, but rather a "complicated familial piece" with layers of depth. This unique approach to the iconic tale is a departure from many modern-day Frankenstein interpretations, which often focus more on the killings and gore.

Frankenstein, which has been a lifelong project for del Toro, is set to hit select theaters on October 17, 2025, followed by a Netflix release on November 7, 2025. While some may be surprised by the director's decision to stray from the traditional horror elements, many are eager to see his take on the classic story, which is expected to offer a more reflective and socially-conscious exploration of the Frankenstein narrative.
