A new 3D animated feature, "Guardians of the Video Game," is gearing up for release, with international sales rights secured ahead of the Toronto market. This film is based on the Naver Webtoon of the same name, which boasts an impressive 345 million views and was previously adapted into a mobile game.
The movie plunges viewers into a vibrant, family-friendly world hidden within video games. Here, a covert guild of guardians works tirelessly to ensure each game functions perfectly and player journeys are preserved. The narrative centers on a banished guardian who finds himself in a low-profile RPG.
In this pixelated realm, the guardian secretly guides an unsuspecting hero towards the game's conclusion. Simultaneously, he endeavors to expose a malicious plot targeting both him and the game itself. Uhm Young-sik, known for "Running Man: Revengers," directs the feature.
Locus Animation, the studio behind "Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs," is producing "Guardians of the Video Game." The company is expanding its slate with webtoon adaptations. The film is currently in post-production and is slated for a fourth-quarter 2026 release, with its first footage to be revealed soon.
