The 41st Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG) is set to open on April 17, 2026, with Fernando Eimbcke's acclaimed film "Flies." The festival, which runs until April 25, has moved its dates to avoid World Cup conflicts.
FICG will welcome a host of international luminaries, including Darren Aronofsky, Edgar Ramirez, and Lola Dueñas, all of whom are being honored. Chile has been invited as the guest country of honor, bringing a significant contingent of its own celebrated filmmakers.
This year's festival boasts a record 10 homages, including those for Chile's notable directors. Mexican filmmakers are strongly represented, with "The Son-in-Law" and "Missing" competing for the Premio Mezcal. Festival director Estrella Araiza noted a "stronger, more unapologetic focus on social cinema" this year.
The festival's Industria section, led by Ximena Urrutia, is launching FICG Generation, a program designed to immerse aspiring film students in the festival and industry. This initiative aims to equip students with practical tools and foster dialogue among film school leaders.
Notable films in competition include "The Condor Daughter" and "Red Hangar." FICG Industria will award approximately $2 million in cash and in-kind prizes. Masterclasses will be led by honorees such as Pablo Larrain, who will discuss his company Fabula's trajectory.
