Recent leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay, maps, and videos have generated significant online discussion. In response to the leaks, which included information allegedly from CyberLeek, Take-Two Interactive initiated legal proceedings, subpoenaing major tech companies over stolen content. This confirmed the legitimacy of some leaked material.
However, Obbe Vermeij, a former technical director at Rockstar North, has downplayed the severity of the leaks, describing them as a "nothing burger" on X. He suggested that the leaks represent only a small portion of footage that escaped, contrasting it with Rockstar's typical strategy of withholding game information for longer periods.
Vermeij also referenced the "Hot Coffee" controversy from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in 2004, a situation that led to a lawsuit settlement. He stated that while "Hot Coffee" was a "nightmare," the current GTA 6 leaks are considerably less impactful.
He concluded that the leaks are merely a "tiny blip" and that GTA 6 is poised to be phenomenal, anticipating strong sales for at least the next 15 years.
