Grimes Reveals Custody Fight With Elon Musk

Singer Grimes, whose birth name is Claire Boucher, has disclosed a protracted custody battle with former partner Elon Musk over their three children. The legal dispute, which spanned approximately one year as of November 2024, led to a significant delay in the release of her new music. Grimes stated that the experience was creatively taxing and that the legal proceedings occurred in a jurisdiction with unfavorable mothers' rights.

During this period, Grimes expressed distress over being separated from one of her children for five months. She also detailed how her social media posts and modeling work were presented as reasons against her having custody. Grimes noted that much of her experience was private due to legal constraints, but publicly shared her struggle to maintain a relationship with her children while Musk's resources and strategy were a factor.

The couple, who were linked from 2018, share three children: X Æ A-Xii, born in May 2020; Exa Dark Sideræl, nicknamed Y, born via surrogate in December 2021; and Techno Mechanicus, also known as Tau, born in June 2022. Grimes has emphasized her commitment to being a good parent, balancing discipline with friendship for her children.
