A new 18-minute documentary, 'Voice Again', offers an intimate look at the support network among grieving fathers at Derian House hospice. The film captures raw, deeply moving conversations, yet also highlights moments of hope and laughter, showcasing the strong bonds forged within the hospice community.
Director Paul Woodward, whose son Kalel received care at Derian House for seven years until his death in 2019, aimed to give a voice to bereaved fathers. He described the Derian Dads group as a safe space where trust allows for open discussions about grief over tea or takeaway.
The documentary, filmed entirely on an iPhone, reveals the comfort, honesty, and friendship found within the group. It underscores that Derian House provides essential support not only during a child's life but also continues to offer connection and care afterwards, a powerful aspect Woodward captured.
The fathers featured recently attended a special premiere of 'Voice Again' at the hospice's in-house cinema. Woodward hopes this film will encourage men nationwide to seek out and recognize the existence of safe spaces for support and connection.
