Summary
- Explosion at Grey Sloan Memorial leaves hospital in need of "cleanup"
- Surgical intern Simone Griffith faces relationship drama and personal growth
- Season 22 premiere described as "intense" and "explosive" by cast

As Grey's Anatomy prepares to return for its 22nd season on October 9th, 2025, the iconic medical drama is set to undergo significant changes at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. According to actress Alexis Floyd, who plays surgical intern Simone Griffith, the hospital is in need of "lots of cleanup" both "emotionally" and "physically" following the events of the previous season.
Season 21 concluded with a hostage situation that led to an explosion, leaving the hospital in disarray. Simone and Dr. Amelia Shepherd, played by Caterina Scorsone, were caught in the aftermath, and the new season will explore the aftermath. "We find our way to becoming the healing institution we promised to be, but not without some scars," Floyd recently told PEOPLE.
Simone's personal life is also in turmoil, as she must navigate the fallout from her ex-boyfriend Lucas Adams, played by Niko Terho, declaring his feelings for her. Unbeknownst to Lucas, Simone has already hooked up with a new doctor in the intern class, leading to a potential love triangle. Simone's co-star Chandra Wilson teased, "She nasty. That's all."

Despite the chaos, Simone is on a journey of self-discovery this season. "I'm on the journey with her," Floyd said. "But I am excited to see how a couple different new relationship dynamics, including in friendships, start to bloom. [I'm excited to see] Simone open [up] a bit. And I think that's going to be a theme for her this season."
The season 22 premiere is expected to be a must-see event, with Camilla Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Wilson, describing it as packed with story and intensity. "It's the Grey's you know and love, but maybe also the Grey's you love to hate a little bit," she teased. "I think there's going to be some throwing things at your TV screen, which is what Grey's does best too."
