- Participants hail from seven different African nations.
- Lab focuses on developing international film competitiveness.

The Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab has unveiled its 2026 cohort, selecting 13 producers with fiction and documentary features in development, alongside two observing producers. Participants represent a diverse group from Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Rwanda.
The week-long lab is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 26 to October 30. During this intensive period, selected producers will engage in workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and peer sessions.
The program's core objective is to cultivate the creative, leadership, and practical skills necessary for filmmakers to develop, finance, and deliver films that achieve international recognition while remaining deeply rooted in local narratives.
This year marks the introduction of observing producers, who will participate without a specific project but will concentrate on their long-term career development. The lab features guidance from four experienced members: Themba Bhebhe, Tiny Mungwe, Perivi Katjavivi, and Neigeme Glasgow-Maeda.
