Former Concourse executive Grant Mohrman has established Gravel Lake Entertainment, an LA and New York-based company dedicated to "director-driven prestige films and elevated genre projects." The firm's inaugural sales title is Arnaud Desplechin's "The Thing That Hurts," a Parisian psychodrama delving into the intersection of grief, guilt, and love.
Filming for Desplechin's latest feature is scheduled to commence later this month in France and Belgium. While casting details remain confidential, the production has secured financing from Silver Screen Global. Several production companies are involved, including 3Six9 Studios, CG Cinéma, Alaz Film, and Wrong Men.
Mohrman, serving as Managing Partner, aims to champion original cinematic voices. Christopher Martello joins Gravel Lake as Head of Development. The company's development slate also includes a feature with director Claire McCarthy, signaling a diverse range of upcoming projects.
Veteran filmmaker Desplechin, known for acclaimed works like "My Golden Days" and "Kings And Queen," will see this film mark a "new chapter" for his career. His most recent film, "Two Pianos," premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival.
