Summary
- Artist Arvind Sundar's new exhibition "Chasing Infinity" explores chess as a boundless universe
- Insights from grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand transformed Sundar's perspective on the mathematics of chess
- Sculptures, drawings, and installations reflect on the balance between order and chaos

In November 2025, acclaimed artist Arvind Sundar is set to unveil his latest exhibition, "Chasing Infinity," the second chapter in his ongoing exploration of art, mathematics, and mysticism. This new series follows his critically acclaimed 2024 exhibition, "Cosmos," which drew from the sacred landscapes of Hampi.
Sundar's latest works find the infinite within the finite terrain of the chessboard. Inspired by his conversations with grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, the artist transforms the 64 squares of chess into a boundless universe where geometry, mythology, and mathematics converge. Anand's insights on the underlying mathematics of chess have profoundly influenced Sundar's perspective, with the grandmaster's discussions on elegant knight maneuvers and the rice grain fable becoming motifs in the artist's sculptures and installations.
Through this exhibition, Sundar strips the game of chess of its competitive nature, revealing its contemplative core. The works reflect on the balance between order and chaos, logic and intuition, inviting viewers to discover the infinite worlds that lie within finite systems.
