'Los Domingos' Sweeps Goya Awards with Five Wins

The recent Goya Awards ceremony, held in Barcelona, saw Alauda Ruiz de Azúa's film 'Los Domingos' emerge as the dominant force, securing five awards. This significant haul included the prestigious Best Film award, as well as Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Azúa herself. Patricia López Arnaiz was honored with the Best Actress award for her role in the film.
'Los Domingos' led the nominations with 13 nods and previously won the top prize at last year's San Sebastian Film Festival. The film, shot in Azúa's native Bilbao, tells the story of a 17-year-old facing a spiritual calling to become a nun, which surprises her family.
Another notable film at the awards was Oliver Laxe's 'Sirât,' which garnered several wins, including Best Cinematography, Sound, and Editing. 'Sirât' had 11 nominations and previously won the Jury Prize at Cannes. Susan Sarandon was also recognized with an honorary Goya Award during the evening's events.
