Gotham Awards 2025: Indie Film Honors Begin

The 2025 Gotham Awards, marking the unofficial start of award season for independent cinema, took place in New York City. Nominations were determined by film journalists and critics, with final winners selected by industry artists. Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" dominated the nominations with six nods, trailed by "It Was Just an Accident" and "No Other Choice," each receiving three nominations.

Jafar Panahi's "It Was Just an Accident" earned the first award of the evening, taking home the prize for Best Original Screenplay. This early win adds anticipation to the ongoing awards circuit and the Vulture Movie Fantasy League. The ceremony also featured tributes to various acclaimed films and artists, including "Song Sung Blue" and "Sinners."

The event celebrated achievements across several categories, including Best Feature, Best International Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best Director. Outstanding Lead and Supporting Performances were also recognized, highlighting the diverse talent within the independent film community.
