In the aftermath of the spiritual grandeur of the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the city of Gorakhpur is now gearing up for a literary celebration of its own. The first-ever Gorakhpur Book Festival, hailed as a 'Sahityik Mahakumbh', is set to take place from November 2nd to 9th, 2025.
The nine-day event, organized by the National Book Trust (NBT), will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and will showcase the city's rich literary, artistic, and spiritual heritage. Over 100 publishers will set up more than 200 stalls, offering thousands of books in Hindi, English, and other Indian languages. Visitors will be able to explore the National Digital Library of India, which will provide free access to over 3,000 e-books.
The festival will feature two key sections: a Bal Mandap for children and a Sahityik Manch for literary discussions. The Bal Mandap will host storytelling sessions, puppet shows, art and craft workshops, origami, and musical story hours. The Sahityik Manch, on the other hand, will feature leading authors and poets sharing their insights.
Evenings at the festival will be filled with cultural performances, including classical dance by the Birju Maharaj Kathak Institute, a qawwali night, a Malini Awasthi concert, and a play by NSD artists. Visitors can also look forward to a diverse range of literary and artistic experiences during this nine-day celebration of Gorakhpur's cultural heritage.
