Wendi McLendon-Covey has publicly shared her differing perspective on events that led to Jeff Garlin's departure from 'The Goldbergs.' Garlin, who played Murray Goldberg, left the ABC sitcom in 2021 amid accusations of inappropriate on-set behavior. He recently explained that during his time on the show, he was undiagnosed with bipolar disorder, which he stated contributed to his difficult on-set demeanor and personal misery.
Garlin elaborated that his condition manifested as extreme mood swings, ranging from deep depression to mania or extreme meanness. He stated he was only diagnosed at the end of his tenure on the show, which premiered in 2013. McLendon-Covey, who played his wife Beverly, commented on social media.
She wrote, "Huh," and later added, "Let's just say I remember things very differently, as does the crew, the other actors, the writers, and our executives." McLendon-Covey had previously called Garlin's exit "a long time coming" in March 2023, citing exhaustion and "the PTSD of it all."
'The Goldbergs' concluded its 10-season run in May 2023, with Garlin's character being written off the show between its ninth and tenth seasons. Entertainment Weekly has reached out for comment from Garlin's representative regarding McLendon-Covey's latest remarks.
