Karnataka House Foundation Unearths Gold Treasure

In Lakkundi village, Karnataka's Gadag district, construction workers made a remarkable discovery while excavating a house foundation. They uncovered an ancient copper pot filled with gold ornaments, including chains, bangles, and rings. This significant find is estimated to weigh nearly one kilogram and is valued at around Rs 60-70 lakh, attracting widespread local attention.
Upon notification, authorities promptly secured the site and the recovered valuables. A panchnama was conducted, confirming the recovery of 22 gold ornaments. The treasure, weighing between 466 and 470 grams, was subsequently deposited into the government treasury under heavy police escort.
Lakkundi, a village celebrated for its 11th and 12th-century Kalyana Chalukya heritage and referred to as the 'paradise of temples,' is now the focus of an investigation into the ornaments' historical origin. The district administration has informed the state government, with plans to compensate the homeowners according to official guidelines once the verification process is complete.
