Godsmack is embarking on a new chapter, with frontman Sully Erna confirming plans for new music by early 2027. This evolution follows the retirement of guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin after the Oct. 26, 2024 concert that concluded the Best of Times World Tour. They chose to leave touring for a more peaceful existence.
Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill have recruited Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dorothy guitarist Sam Koltun. This new lineup has been touring Europe and will feature on the upcoming Live at the Mohegan Sun album, documenting their final show with Rombola and Larkin. Erna expressed pride in the album capturing the emotional farewell.
Despite contemplating retirement, Erna and Merrill felt they still had "gas in the tank" and decided to continue the band. They aim to honor Godsmack's established sound while embracing new inspirations from the current members, potentially leading to a "Godsmack 2.0." A new song with Dorothy, titled "Set Me Free," is set to release before the Rise of Rock tour begins May 7.
The Rise of Rock tour is scheduled to run through Sept. 26, with dates primarily at amphitheaters. Godsmack's legacy includes six top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, 13 No. 1 Mainstream Rock singles, and multiple accolades.
