Summary
- Delegation met Kala Academy member secretary to address corruption charges
- Lack of transparency and engagement with local art community
- Demand for annual calendar of activities and independent inquiry into renovation

On November 4th, 2025, a delegation from the Kala Rakhan Mandd met with the member secretary of the Kala Academy, Shankar Gaonkar, to address the corruption charges surrounding the recent renovation works at the academy. The members expressed deep concern over the poor administrative irregularities and the lack of transparency in the academy's functioning.
The delegation stated that the Kala Academy has sadly been reduced to an institution plagued by neglect and a lack of engagement with the local art community. They demanded that the academy release its annual calendar of activities at the beginning of every year to ensure timely planning and participation by Goan artists. The delegation further pointed out that the 50th anniversary of the prestigious Konkani Drama Competition was not celebrated on the scale it deserved.
Urging the government to conduct an independent inquiry into the renovation expenditures, the delegation stressed the need to restore public confidence and accountability in the Kala Academy. They believe that such measures are crucial to address the issues and revive the institution's role in supporting and promoting the local art scene.
