TV Hosts Thrust On-Air Early After Fire Alarm Chaos
10 Mar
Summary
- Good Morning Britain studio evacuated due to fire alarm.
- This Morning hosts began their show 20 minutes early.
- Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were unaware they were live.

On Monday, a fire alarm caused an unexpected evacuation of the Good Morning Britain studio, interrupting the live broadcast. The show, scheduled until 10 am, was cut short when hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid could not return after an advertising break around 9:40 am.
This abrupt halt led to This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley unexpectedly appearing on air 20 minutes earlier than planned. They initially had no idea they were live, creating a moment of confusion as they had to cover for the absent GMB presenters.
On Tuesday, Ed Balls humorously addressed the incident with Shephard and Deeley. Shephard playfully accused This Morning producers of forcing them on air early to compensate for GMB's unexpected departure. Balls explained they were following fire marshal instructions, which led to the gallery needing to cut the GMB broadcast to safely evacuate.
This incident brought back memories for Shephard, who recalled a similar fire evacuation during his time on GMB. A spokesperson for Good Morning Britain confirmed the evacuation and apologized for the disruption, thanking the This Morning team for their impromptu coverage. This Morning resumed its regular schedule at 10:00 am.
