A new model railway, lauded for its exquisite detail, has been installed in Gloucester Station's waiting room. This intricate display commemorates two centuries of Gloucester's railway heritage, featuring miniature scenes that illustrate daily life across different historical periods.
The project, described as a "labour of love," was undertaken by 12 individuals over approximately 12 months. It aims to celebrate Gloucester's railway history and the numerous people who have contributed to it over generations. Station manager Chloe Coglan highlighted the remarkable detail, noting that each viewing reveals something new and that every element tells a story.
Visitors can admire the fine craftsmanship, including tiny figures, hand-painted signs, a cat, and a clever mirror illusion creating continuous track scenery. The diorama was funded by a £1,000 grant from Great Western Railway and was officially unveiled by the mayor of Gloucester. Organizers hope it will encourage people of all backgrounds to engage with model building.
