Music Icon's Record Hoard Hits Auction Block

Glenn A. Baker, a prominent figure in Australian music history, author, and presenter, passed away on July 31st at the age of 74. His family remembers him not only for his significant contributions to the Australian rock 'n' roll scene but also as a devoted father to six children and a grandfather to thirteen.

Born in Sydney in 1952, Baker's passion for music was ignited early, leading him to a career that spanned radio, music management, and record label founding. He was instrumental in the creation of the national triple j network and managed the band Ol'55. Baker also achieved international recognition, topping the BBC's 'Rock Brain of the Universe' three times.

Baker's prolific career included authoring 17 books and serving as Billboard's Australia correspondent for over two decades. His extensive personal music collection, comprising over 80,000 items, was put up for auction. This monumental sale included tens of thousands of LPs primarily from the latter half of the 20th century, representing his lifelong dedication to preserving music history. The collection was acquired by Winarch Group's founder Paul Lambess.

Friends and colleagues, like Iva Davies of ICEHOUSE, remembered Baker for his larger-than-life personality and his unwavering advocacy for music creators. His family has requested privacy but suggested honoring his legacy by engaging in passionate discussions about Australian musicians.
