Oscar-Winner Glen Keane Safely Extracted From Mountain Peril

Oscar-winning animator Glen Keane was airlifted off Mummy Mountain in Paradise Valley, Arizona, on Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency during a hike. The 72-year-old reportedly suffered dizziness, necessitating a helicopter rescue by Phoenix firefighters. Keane, who grew up in Arizona, was safely transported to the base of the mountain and evaluated by paramedics, requiring no further medical assistance.

Keane, celebrated for his work on "Dear Basketball" and animated classics like "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin," described the rescue situation as being on a narrow, dangerous ledge. He expressed profound gratitude for the fire department's intervention, acknowledging the risks they took. The Phoenix Fire Department shared footage of the successful extraction, noting the challenging terrain and temperatures.

Born in Philadelphia to cartoonist Bil Keane, Glen Keane's career began at Disney after attending the California Institute of the Arts. He was honored as a Disney Legend in 2013. His collaboration with Kobe Bryant on "Dear Basketball" earned an Oscar at the 90th Academy Awards, highlighting his continued impact on animation.
