67-Year-Old Dancer's Maverick Spirit Shines

Giselle Lecavalier, at 67, demonstrates an exceptional command of her dancing body, embarking on a phase of her career defined by artistic freedom and self-choreographed solos.

Her current performance, "Danses Vagabondes," draws inspiration from Carlo Rovelli's "Écrits Vagabonds." Lecavalier moves with a restless, engaging energy, infusing her dance with a compelling mix of compulsions and past dance echoes, from balletic gestures to hip-hop footwork, all set to a driving techno soundtrack.

The dancer's unique presence evokes comparisons to a "witchy raver" or an "earnest artist of the avant-garde." While her physical prowess, including the ability to kick her leg to her shoulder, is remarkable, it is her unquenchable maverick spirit that truly commands admiration.

"Danses Vagabondes" is presented at Sadler's Wells East in London until April 27th.
