HBO Max's first Italian original docuseries, "Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa," premieres in Italy and Spain on April 3. This three-episode series chronicles the extensive legal battles that ensued over the vast fortune of the iconic Italian actress, Gina Lollobrigida, who passed away in 2023 at 95.
The docuseries, produced by Indigo Stories, reconstructs the intricate legal conflicts. These involve Francisco Javier Rigau, Lollobrigida's younger longtime partner, her son Milko, nephew Dimitri Skofic, and personal assistant Andrea Piazzolla. Piazzolla faces accusations of theft and exploiting the diva's fragility.
"Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa" utilizes meticulous analysis of court documents, exclusive testimonies, and unheard audio recordings. It features participation from key figures like Rigau, Skofic, and Piazzolla, promising to reveal unseen details and shed light on the affair's darker aspects.
These uncovered details include the alleged disappearance of Lollobrigida's assets, estimated between €10 million ($11.4 million) and €20 million ($22.8 million), with some funds possibly hidden in Panama. A court-appointed administrator was named in 2019.
Andrea Piazzolla was convicted in 2023 to three years in prison and ordered to pay €500,000 ($572,000) in compensation. However, Piazzolla maintains his innocence and has appealed the conviction, leaving the case unresolved.
Following its initial release in Italy and Spain, the docuseries will become available on HBO Max in other territories at a later, unspecified date.
