Shinola, a Detroit-based watch brand, has released a new collection of timepieces to honor the beloved comedian Gilda Radner. These watches, part of the brand's Great American series, were launched last month to coincide with Radner's birthday.
The tribute to the Saturday Night Live original player is understated, with Radner's name subtly incorporated onto the watch's back, band, and packaging. The collection aims to capture the essence of Radner, known for her humor and vulnerability.
Supporting the launch, SNL alum Molly Shannon and current cast member Ashley Padilla participated in a campaign, discussing Radner's significant influence on comedy. Padilla expressed deep honor in being involved, while Shannon recounted Radner's impact on her own formative years watching television.
The Gilda Radner 39mm Runwell watch is priced at $2,500 and is limited to 400 units, with a Runabout watch available for $1,995 (limited to 300 units). A travel jewelry case is also offered for $225. Importantly, a portion of the proceeds from these sales will be donated to Gilda's Club Metro Detroit, an organization providing support to those affected by cancer.
