The popular CBS comedy series Ghosts has returned for its fifth season, which premiered on October 16, 2025. The show follows the story of Sam and Jay, a married couple who move from New York City to the upstate Woodstone Manor, a property that Sam has suddenly inherited. To their surprise, they find that the manor is inhabited by a group of not-so-spooky spirits, including a Viking named Thorfinn, a lounge singer named Alberta Haynes, a hippie named Susan "Flower" Montero, and a youth group leader named Pete.
While Sam and Jay don't have children in the show, both of the actors who portray them are parents in real life. Rose McIver, who plays Sam, welcomed her first child, a daughter named Chloe, with her husband George Byrne in 2024, during the filming of Ghosts season 3. However, her pregnancy was not written into the plot of the show, as co-showrunner Joe Wiseman had stated earlier this year that "Currently, Jay and Sam aren't going to have kids."
Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Jay, is also a father of three, sharing daughters Tiare and Leka and a son named Bhumi with his wife, Naomi Ambudkar. Despite their off-screen parental roles, the show's creators have chosen to keep the on-screen couple childless for the time being.
