Joko Anwar's horror-comedy, "Ghost in the Cell," has achieved significant distribution deals across multiple territories after its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. The film, a co-production between Indonesia and South Korea, centers on prison inmates forced to band together against a supernatural entity that targets individuals with dark auras.
The film's distribution network now spans North America, Russia, CIS, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, and German-speaking territories. Additional negotiations are reportedly ongoing for other regions, indicating strong international interest.
Beyond its horror and action elements, "Ghost in the Cell" subtly addresses Indonesia's deforestation crisis, with Anwar stating the supernatural premise serves to articulate truths the human system fails to address. The production is a collaboration involving Come and See Pictures, Rapi Films, Barunson E&A, and Legacy Pictures. It is slated for theatrical release in Indonesia in the second quarter of 2026.
