George, a long-standing member of the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) since 1989, will be celebrated with the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement. This distinguished honor recognizes his extensive contributions to film and television writing. The ceremony will take place on March 8 at the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan.
His screenplay for "Hotel Rwanda" earned an Oscar nomination and highlighted the harrowing events of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. George also received an Oscar nomination for his very first credit, "In the Name of the Father." His collaborations with Jim Sheridan on films like "Some Mother's Son" and "The Boxer" also chronicled "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland.
Tom Fontana, President of the WGAE, praised George as a unique talent whose work has brought attention to global tragedies. George's commitment extends beyond writing, as he has also served on the WGAE Council and the Minimum Basic Agreement Negotiating Committee, demonstrating his dedication as a union ally.
