In a recent interview, acclaimed actor George Clooney reminisced about his "terrible audition" for Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 gothic horror film Bram Stoker's Dracula. Clooney revealed that Coppola, the film's director and producer, thought he was drunk during the audition, though Clooney insists he was simply "very relaxed" and on the pain medication Percodan.
This is not the first time Clooney has shared this story. He first recounted the audition flop back in 2016, at which point he claimed to have gone Method by getting drunk to play a drunk character. However, Clooney now clarifies that he "was not" actually drunk during the audition, but was merely very calm and composed, which Coppola mistook for intoxication.
Despite the disastrous audition, Bram Stoker's Dracula went on to become a critically acclaimed gothic horror drama, starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, and others. Clooney, meanwhile, did not end up landing a role in the film.
Clooney is currently starring in the new movie Jey Kelly, where he plays an aging A-list movie star on a journey of self-discovery. His co-star, Adam Sandler, has even started dressing up in suits at red carpet events, thanks to Clooney's influence.
