Rush: Barbossa's Return Needs More Than Just a Payday

Actor Geoffrey Rush, known for his role as Captain Barbossa, has outlined what it would take for him to reprise the character in a future Pirates of the Caribbean film. He indicated that the extensive break since his last appearance provides an opportunity for a meaningful return. Rush expressed that he wouldn't want to come back simply for a payday, preferring a script that justifies the character's revival, perhaps as a ghost to antagonize Jack Sparrow.

Barbossa has met his end twice in the film series. Rush suggested that, akin to Hamlet's father returning as a ghost, Barbossa's story could continue posthumously. He even entertained the idea of fans contributing to the narrative. Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, also shared his openness to a potential sixth Pirates movie, noting that he frequently inquires about it and maintains contact with Johnny Depp.
