Lionsgate Premiere will release the thriller "The Gates" in select theaters on March 13. This marks writer-director John Burr's second feature film.
"The Gates" centers on three college students, Derek, Kevin, and Tyon, whose road trip takes a perilous turn. They enter a secluded gated community via an ill-advised shortcut and become entangled after witnessing a murder.
As the night unfolds, the students are pursued and blamed for the crime. The perpetrator, a cunning patriarch played by James Van Der Beek, manipulates the community and its residents.
Burr described the script as deeply personal, drawing inspiration from his upbringing in a similar community and his experiences as a biracial individual. The film delves into the complexities of trust and differing perspectives.
Produced by Nancy Leopardi, Ross Kohn, and Gary Glushon, the film benefited from Oklahoma and Cherokee Film incentives. Rebellium Films handled production, with financing from TPC.
