Matarazzo's Post-Stranger Things Comedy Explodes

Gaten Matarazzo's first project since "Stranger Things" concluded is the stoner comedy "Pizza Movie." He stars alongside Sean Giambrone in this "stoner comedy for theater kids," which focuses on a quest for pizza to counteract a drug's effects. The film intentionally shifts focus from romantic pursuits to the challenges within Jack and Montgomery's friendship, making the characters more relatable.

Matarazzo sought to escape the shadow of "Stranger Things," emphasizing the audacity and self-referential humor of "Pizza Movie." While the filmmakers included subtle "Stranger Things" Easter eggs, Matarazzo requested they be reduced to avoid being too obvious. The film's reception has been positive, with Matarazzo expressing hope for a theatrical release.

Matarazzo also reflected on "Stranger Things" fan theories, debunking the "Conformity Gate" idea and discussing his character Dustin's perspective on Eleven's fate. He is also set to collaborate with Andy Serkis on an animated remake of "Animal Farm," drawn to Serkis's directorial approach and the classic novel's themes.
