The 68-year-old star confessed to his campmates that he was raised by his aunt and uncle, having believed them to be his biological parents. This unusual family dynamic meant his sisters were, in fact, his cousins.

Sweet, who has an extensive career in Australian television and film, shared that he had never publicly discussed this aspect of his upbringing before. He was raised in Adelaide before moving to Melbourne in 1980 to pursue his acting ambitions. While he saw his biological father occasionally, the subject of his parentage was rarely discussed, though his father sometimes mentioned it when intoxicated.

Despite the unusual circumstances, Sweet expressed that he viewed the situation positively, valuing being raised by people who genuinely desired him.
