Taapsee Pannu's Netflix film 'Gandhari' faces copyright claims

Netflix's upcoming action-thriller 'Gandhari', starring Taapsee Pannu, is facing a copyright infringement claim shortly before its September 3 release. Writer Kalyan Bandi alleges that the film's core concept is derived from a story he created and registered in 2019. Bandi claims he had approached Netflix representatives with his narrative about a mother rescuing her child from traffickers, which he feels shares significant similarities with 'Gandhari'.

Despite Bandi's assertions, Kathha Pictures, the production house behind 'Gandhari', has vehemently denied the plagiarism accusations. In a statement, they asserted that the film is an original work, with its story and screenplay developed by Kanika Dhillon. The production house urged against presenting the allegations as facts.

Set in the fictional town of Joypurra, 'Gandhari' features Bani, a mother's determined battle to protect her child. Directed by Devashish Makhija, the film also stars Ishwak Singh and Chhaya Kadam. This project marks a reunion for Taapsee Pannu and writer-producer Kanika Dhillon, who previously collaborated on films like 'Manmarziyaan'.
