A solo photography exhibition named 'Gajanan' commenced at Lucknow's Kala Srot Art Gallery on Monday, February 10, and will be accessible to the public until February 18. The exhibition showcases 38 high-resolution photographs by Puneet Katyayan. These striking images capture the intricate patterns of tree bark, which have organically formed shapes that evoke the diverse moods of Lord Ganesh.
Katyayan dedicated nearly eight years to meticulously walking through various heritage sites and educational institutions across Lucknow. His objective was to document these natural formations shaped by time and the elements. Each photograph isolates these natural bark textures, vividly depicting expressions of serenity, mischief, compassion, and contemplation, all associated with the elephant-headed deity.
Speaking about his work, Puneet Katyayan emphasized that no alterations or enhancements were made to the images, stating that viewers are witnessing nature's pure artistry. He explained that within the lines and knots of the bark, he perceived the different spiritual expressions ('Bhavas') of Lord Ganesh. Artist Umesh Saxena commended the exhibition's concept for its fusion of environmental awareness and spiritual symbolism, noting the inherent divinity within the natural world. Fine art student Shreya Raghuvanshi found the photographs remarkably realistic, likening them to painted depictions of Ganesh's emotions.
