Summary
- HBO and FX competed for the crime drama 'Justified'.
- Creator chose FX due to John Landgraf's passion for Elmore Leonard.
- 'Justified' aired six seasons on FX from 2010 to 2015.
The acclaimed crime drama 'Justified' was the subject of intense competition, with HBO among the networks vying for its rights before it ultimately found a home at FX. Series creator Graham Yost revealed that the decision to award the pitch to FX was heavily influenced by the fervent enthusiasm of FX chairman John Landgraf for the works of legendary author Elmore Leonard.
Landgraf's deep appreciation for Leonard's writing, stemming from his previous involvement with projects like 'Karen Sisco' and his co-writing of an episode, proved decisive. 'Justified,' which brought Leonard's distinctive characters and narratives to life through the portrayal of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens by Timothy Olyphant, subsequently aired for six seasons on FX from 2010 to 2015.
