2 Aug
Summary
- Artificial banyan tree at Futala Lake will be a nighttime landmark.
- Tree features a 15-meter height and 30-meter span with intricate branches.
- Advanced LiDAR scans and projection fabric will create seamless visuals.

An artificial banyan tree, standing 15 meters high and 30 meters long, is nearing completion at Futala Lake and is poised to become Nagpur's latest night-time attraction.
This towering structure will serve as the visual heart of the revived musical fountain, functioning as a central projection surface. Its complex geometry has necessitated detailed planning, including LiDAR scans by a local geospatial team to ensure animations precisely match the tree's contours.
Installation of the projection fabric is targeted for August 20, 2026. This engineered fabric offers high reflectance for bright projections and controlled translucence to allow internal LED and ROBE lighting to glow. Specialized lighting fixtures will be positioned precisely to eliminate shadows and complement the projections.
The tree is designed to be illuminated even after the fountain shows conclude, creating a permanent visual signature for Futala Lake. Officials anticipate the illuminated structure will be visible from approaching aircraft, becoming an iconic landmark associated with Nagpur.
