In New Zealand's North Island, a nationwide manhunt is underway for an unusual pair: a grumpy farmhand named Hector and his new, troublesome foster teen, Ricky. Bella, Hector's kind-hearted wife and a dedicated foster parent, takes in the difficult Ricky, but an unforeseen event forces Hector and the boy to flee into the vast Te Urewera wilderness.
