A new series set in the world of 'Friday the 13th,' titled Crystal Lake, is currently in development for Peacock. This prequel aims to explore the backstory of the infamous horror franchise, shifting focus to Pamela Voorhees, Jason's mother, who was the killer in the original film. The series is envisioned as a psychological thriller steeped in the atmosphere of the paranoid 1970s, reflecting the era's societal anxieties and themes.
Creator Brad Caleb Kane, who previously worked on HBO's 'It: Welcome to Derry,' is spearheading this project. He intends to weave the narrative around the themes prevalent in the 1970s, such as mistrust of institutions and the burgeoning women's liberation movement. While promising plenty of the franchise's signature gore and inventive kill sequences, Kane emphasizes that these elements will serve the character development and thematic depth of the show.
