In celebration of International Day of Play, Wizards of the Coast has released a free Dungeons & Dragons adventure titled "Borderlands Quest: Dagger Danger!". This short, one-shot quest is specifically crafted for level 1 characters, providing a simple yet engaging introduction to the popular role-playing game for newcomers.
The free adventure, available on D&D Beyond, guides players through a dungeon crawl to recover a missing family heirloom. Along their journey, they will encounter familiar D&D monsters like bugbears and kobolds. While optional elements connect to the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set, "Dagger Danger!" is fully playable with only the free rules available online.
This release offers a significantly lower barrier to entry compared to purchasing a starter set, which typically costs around $50. Wizards of the Coast has also made last year's free adventure, "Goblin Trouble," available, providing additional content for burgeoning players eager to continue their adventures.
Accompanying the adventure are five premade characters, including a dwarf cleric, elf wizard, goliath barbarian, halfling rogue, and human fighter, simplifying the setup process for new Dungeon Masters. The package includes a self-contained adventure, an overview of D&D rules, read-aloud text, guidance for Dungeon Masters on running the game, and necessary maps and stat blocks, eliminating the need for additional rulebooks.
