Released on September 1, 2026, the book compiles a wealth of handwritten drafts, rough ideas, and unused verses preserved by Mary Austin, Mercury's former fiancée. The collection spans his entire career, from his early days to his solo endeavors.
Included within this extensive archive are formative versions of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and multiple drafts related to 'Don't Stop Me Now.' The book also features complete songs that never reached studio production. Personal photographs and anecdotes provide an intimate look at Mercury's life and artistic journey.
The publication is available in standard hardback, ebook, and audiobook formats, with a limited deluxe edition designed for dedicated collectors. This special edition boasts unique features such as a slipcase with handwritten lyrics from 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' bespoke endpapers, and bonus archival material related to the iconic song.
Mercury's journey to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' began years before Queen recorded it, with initial fragments forming in the late 1960s. Early ideas, including one known as 'The Cowboy Song,' laid the groundwork for the song's eventual fusion of ballad, opera, and hard rock.
The book also highlights the creative process behind 'Killer Queen.' Pages dedicated to the song reveal Mercury's dynamic approach, with lyrics surrounded by scribbles and doodles, illustrating his continuous refinement of the material.
