Summary
- Fred again.. collaborates with ambient pioneer Brian Eno on 'Secret Life'.
- The album samples Fred again..'s signature style at a slower, ambient pace.
- Critics question if 'Secret Life' lacks the communal spirit of previous work.
Fred again.. has teamed up with ambient music legend Brian Eno for a new collaborative album, "Secret Life." This project, recorded during the "Actual Life" period, sees Fred again..'s distinctive sample-based compositions slowed to Eno's famously deliberate tempo.
While "Secret Life" showcases Fred again..'s production talents and Eno's influence, it diverges from the energetic and communal spirit of his "Actual Life" trilogy. The album's immersive soundscapes have led some to question whether it captures the same accessible, participatory feel.
Fred again.., whose real name is Fred Gibson, initially gained global recognition with his "Actual Life" albums, known for their innovative use of sampled audio from everyday digital interactions. His collaboration with Eno marks a notable exploration into more subdued, ambient textures.
