19 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Fran Drescher's show Happily Divorced canceled after only 36 episodes
- Drescher believes the show had more potential but was a "victim of poor business model"
- Fans still express disappointment over the show's early cancellation

In September 2025, acclaimed actress Fran Drescher was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During a recent interview, Drescher opened up about one of her past projects that she wishes had gone the distance - her 2011 sitcom Happily Divorced.
The series, which followed a florist named Fran after her 18-year marriage ended when her husband revealed he was gay, was canceled by TV Land in 2013 after just 36 episodes. Drescher believes the show was "finding its own" and had more potential, but was a "victim of a poor business model."
"If you have limited money, you can't pay for a series with the hopes that you'll be able to syndicate it or advance sell it before you start running out of money," Drescher explains. She had tried to warn the network, but they were unwilling to listen at the time.
Two years after the show's cancellation, Drescher ran into one of the TV Land executives, who admitted that Happily Divorced's early demise was a "big regret" for the network. Many fans have also expressed their disappointment, with some even saying they preferred the show to Drescher's breakout series The Nanny.
"It's unfortunate that we didn't get an opportunity to do that longer because it had something to say. The global message was: Everyone has a right to live an authentic life and love is love," Drescher reflects.
